What a wonderful three days ! This bed and breakfast is amazing ! Will and his wife have renovated this home to perfection.. the rooms are beautiful. Large bathrooms, comfy bed and beautiful details throughout. The Nespresso machine for morning coffee was a huge plus !! No detail is overlooked. The bistro food is fantastic … we had dinner here three nights and I can see why it is always full. The breakfasts are equally delicious. Wonderful hospitality ……

Very grateful to Will for letting us book for just a one night stay. We had a fantastic experience. Felt really welcomed on arrival. The whole interior of the building is beautifully decorated. Our room was spotlessly clean and the bed comfortable. We had a table booked in Miss Fea's bistro on the evening. Every table in the bistro was occupied and the staff ran the restaurant like a well oiled machine. They were very friendly and also checked that we were happy with our room. Our meal was excellent in taste, quality and presentation. It was a real treat at a very reasonable cost. At breakfast we were greeted by two of the staff that were in the restaurant the night before. Very cheerful and friendly. They asked how we had slept and gave us the breakfast menus. Breakfast was amazing, such a variety of options. We decided to go with sourdough toast with avocado, poached eggs an bacon. What a great choice, the quality of the ingredients was clear. Just like the previous evenings meal it was very well cooked and presented. All in all we almost had a perfect visit, the only disappointment being we didn't get to meet Kingsley the retriever.

We have just had a lovely 2 night stay at The Smugglers Rest. This was our first and we will definitely be back for more. We had a friendly welcome from the owners, who called us on our arrival day to make sure they would be there when we arrived to check in. The room was beautiful - cosy, clean and high quality in every aspect, with lots of character. Breakfast was delicious and only made us want to come back when the in-house Bistro was open. Perfect location for accessing a stunning North Devon stretch of coastline as well as Woolacombe beach. Very cute village with two pubs. Thanks for a great couple of days.

We had a lovely four night stay, Will and Stacey are excellent host and run a superb establishment. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, very well decorated, there are lovely pieces of art decorating the building. The breakfast are extremely lovely, really good choice couldn’t fault a thing.

Once found, it was easy. The drive up from Woolacombe was interesting and might challenge the less experienced driver on a busy day. But, it's worth the effort. Run by Stacey and Will, with Freya on waiting duties during our visit, and watched carefully by the most chilled /laziest golden retriever you'll ever encounter, the place is a jewel. Only five minutes from stunning views of Woolacombe Beach, Lundy Island and the Bristol Channel, and only a light handed nine iron away from the Mortehoe Museum, this former pub has been tastefully re-purposed as a B&B. It has SmokeyJoe's BBQ evenings on Monday and Tuesday and Miss Fea's Bistro on other evenings. We sat in the Bistro on our first evening, just to enjoy a glass of wine and a local beer, and as we watched Freya bringing out the beautifully presented plates , we were both struck with food envy. We returned the next evening to sample their wares. Having been to a friend's 70th birthday party all afternoon, a very successful BBQ, where we had both way eaten too much, we could only manage a starter each and a single desert. I can honestly recommend the scallops starter and my wife's mussels were par excellence. The Pavlova desert was definitely worth leaving space for too. Breakfast was included (I guess the B&B gives it away) and it was delicious. I had the "Full English" which was grand, enough but not too much, and my wife the "Omelette with Greens". Both were delicious. On the second morning I went for the 'Omelette with Haddock", turned out to be another excellent choice. With mobility issues, the lack of ground floor accommodation or a lift was always going to be a concern, but the long staircase and grand banister, proved to be easily managed and our room, "Lundy" was the first room your arrive at. Access was not a problem. The rooms (an ante room with a chaise long and a small 'dressing area') were spacious, with tall ceilings, giving lots of light, and the bed was most comfortable. with soft pillows, a light and a warm duvet. The bathroom, with it's rolltop bath, nice double headed shower was big and again light and airy, and lovely towels too. The decent sized wall mounted television was easy to use (it was during Wimbledon...) and the free Wi-Fi connected first time and worked well. Perfect? Not quite. It would be remiss of me to point out a couple of things, such as the plug in the bath leaked very, very slowly, (maybe purposefully to avoid you wasting your day luxuriating in the bath!) and the bottom of the shower door leaked a little. In the first case not enough to spoil your soak (Will is aware of it now), and the latter was nothing that one of the spare towels couldn't manage. However. Would I recommend it? In a heartbeat. Would I go again? I'm looking for reasons to go back!

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of June and what a lovely stay we had! The hosts were so friendly and gave great advice about the local area and good recommendations of where to eat and watch the Football (Euros was on at the time), and you're greeted by the most gorgeous Golden Retriever every morning! The breakfast was gorgeous, definitely the best we've had at any B&B or hotel. We both tried something different each morning and so pleased we did as it was all delicious, I wished we could stay an extra day to try the omelette too! Our room was called Coombesgate, and this was perfect for a 3 night stay. It was clean and the bed was really comfy, we also got homemade biscuits left in the jar each day when we got back from our days out. So yummy! We bought a parking ...

We bought a parking pass through them too which was reasonable so we could park in the car park opposite, and also gave us access to other car parks around the area which was handy. Sadly we didn't eat in the Bistro this time but the food looked amazing. There are two pubs right by the Smugglers Rest so lovely for an evening drink. Overall, we had a great time and didn't want to leave! We will definitely book here again in the future. Thank you Will & Stacey.

An absolute gem of a Hotel in the lovely village of Mortehoe. Our large room on the 2nd floor was light and airy with a balcony, tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean, bathroom with walk-in shower also a good size, breakfast menu extensive and portions substantial and of good quality, restaurant likewise. Friendly, welcoming owners and helpful staff, couldn't find fault. Highly Recommended

Stayed for a couple of nights, lovely place with character. Food delicious and super breakfast. Very Coeliac/ gluten free friendly. Most of the menu could be adapted as cooked fresh. Friendly, informal, good local knowledge and information from hosts. Parking very easy. All very pleasant.

We found this guest house by chance whilst looking for a short stay to visit family nearby. It is a gem. The couple that run it have put their heart and soul (and obviously quite a bit of money) into refurbishing the rooms. We stayed in the 'Hartland' room which was huge with a balcony and a super bathroom. Breakfast was top notch as they also run a restaurant during the evenings which I would thoroughly recommend

Lovely, bright spacious room with everything you could want for a few days away. We spent a couple of days here over the bank holiday and can't recommend it enough, comfy bed, tasty breakfasts, really helpful and friendly owner, all in a gorgeous location on the Devon coast.

Great BnB. 8 rooms that are impeccably clean and well appointed. Lovely personal touches like good coffee. Owners clearly love their business and look after their guests. The breakfast is probably the best I’ve had with amazing choices. 5*

Lovely friendly service, well decorated room. Lovely extra touches such as the toiletries, coffee machine, good tea bags! Comfy large bed, great size TV. The breakfast however was the shining star. The flavours and attention to detail were top class. Excellent choice on the menu and all with tea or coffee and selection of fruit juice. We had a full english, haddock omlette, pancakes and eggs & avocado on sourdough over the two days. Best breakfast we have ever had.

We stayed for 2 nights to be near to a family event. The rooms are decorated to a lovely standard and very clean. The hosts were welcoming and friendly. The highlight for us was the breakfast which is 5 star and quite possibly the best full English I have ever had. The only issue which was party resolved was the change in parking fees from the website. Appreciate that the new parking fee is no fault of owners, but suggest that should be updated on website or shared before booking to save any issues at check in. We all really enjoyed our stay and would stay again when in the area and recommend.

What an incredibly magical place. I’ve just spent the last four days at this wonderful B and B. That doesn’t do it justice. For me this was a home from home - except a better one where the place was spotless, uncluttered and the food was amazing. Will and Stacey have created a boutique ambience combined with real family atmosphere - but it’s your cool family, not the boring one. Every meal was elegant, delicious and generous without being overwhelming. All the team were fantastic including the lovely Freya who indulged our Writing Group’s whims with a smile and no complaint. No request was too much or a chore. Will has a great sense of humour and made everyone feel incredibly welcome from the outset. By remembering each of our names, we felt special and relevant....

The surrounding landscape is truly heaven on earth. I went wild swimming every day with a writing buddy and what a joy to be greeted by Kingsley the friendly dog on our return. I want to stay again and again and possibly live here as the hotel’s very own permanent resident. P.S. I grew up in a guest house so I know how much work goes into this production!8

A five day stay on an excellent writing retreat. Will and Stacey are perfect hosts here. The food is outstandingly creative and delicious. Rooms are beautiful, extremely comfortable and spacious. There is a smile around every corner from the staff. Mortehoe is a charming village. Here you are right at the centre of village life, yet in a restful and peaceful place to relax and restore. I thoroughly recommend it!

I stayed with a group here for four nights in late April 2024. The rooms are beautiful. The food is outstanding - fresh, healthy, and perfectly presented - a million miles away from a pub grub and lazy menu you can find in a million eating places. The owners and staff are extremely personable and the whole experience makes you feel welcomed and appreciated. From the warm greeting from the marvellous front door retriever to the late night martini espresso. Everyone dining each night at Ms Fea’s on every table looked happy and relaxed and enjoying themselves. The hotel is right in the heart of Mortehoe with a public car park a stone’s throw away. The better half took me for my birthday weekend to Woolacombe. We love it there and go often! This time we stayed here. Well, what an absolutely banging place! Stunning location, lovely atmosphere, amazing rooms, off the scale food and wonderful staff. I can’t really say more than that. Arrival we were met by the owner and he was a nice chap and couldn’t do anything more for us throughout the stay (I especially liked the banter and also the fact he would recommend other restaurants outside of their own - which was fantastic) Which leads me to the food … Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the wee donkey … talk about “didn’t see that coming ” it was just incredible. The coffee was the best coffee I’d had in a restaurant ever (secrets safe with me 😉 Rooms were fantastic and well designed/looked after and this was the same throughout the hotel. All in all, just a wonderful experience and would 100% go back without hesitation. The kids would love it there too!! Thanks to the whole team behind the scenes and everyone involved (including the dog, I didn’t get his name)
